Richard Nixon Library & Birthplace(ニクソン記念館）
第３７代アメリカ大統領リチャード・ニクソンの功績を
たたえる記念館はオレンジ郡の美しい町の中に、
デズニーランドから車で１５分の所にあります。
１９６９年に大統領に就任し、経済の再建、米ソの緊張緩和、
中国との国交回復、中東和平の進展、ベトナム戦争の終結
といった数々の功績にもかかわらず、国内での人気は低下し、
１９７４年、ウォーターゲート事件をきっかけに現職大統領として
始めて辞任に追い込まれました。
貧しい農場出身で大統領まで登りつめたニクソンは
まさにアメリカンドリームを象徴しています。

in my parent's bedroom, which is located off the main living room.
It was the coldest day of one of the coldest winters in California's history.
Our family doctor, who had driven out to Yorba Linda in a horse and buggy
from Whittier twelve miles away, wrapped me in a blanket after delivering
me and put me in a laundry basket to keep warm. Years later, he told me
that his main recollection was that I had the strongest and loudest voice
